Community agreements or «safe rules» in the LDD-Lingo can be a profound means of building trust and security in conflict management. And they don`t need to be the first thing we do together (!). One of the coaches of deep democracy talked about how to be a choice to stop and ask groups to create their «safer rules» (what the group needs to feel safer and do their job well together) before they get into conflict or go further. If emotions are amplified and we ask people to name what they really need, it can help the group be more honest about what they need to participate. If members have relationships outside the group, amnesty agreements help encourage people to share the truth without fear of blaming or judging. The first group is not the only time you talk about agreements, and it is good practice to expect agreements to be broken and prepare for those discussions. In more chaotic situations (larger classes, a lot of interruption, etc.), you may need to activate the chords in one or more groups. It is best to consider yourself as a living organism that can be sensitized at any time. That`s why I insist on the group replay technique when I present chords for the first time, because it`s a great way to reset a lot of energy and put the group in a calm state where we can remind them of the chords. However, it is a large part of prevention that can help succeed in a group experience. There are many ways to enter into group agreements that allow each member to participate in the group environment and results. As a bonus, it helps leaders and moderators cope with all the difficult behaviors that emerge. Trust the group to cover most of the things they need to work well together. If, towards the end of the segment, you feel that some important chords are missing, you only offer one or two supplements. Check whether or not the group wants to adapt your proposals. Other ways to establish group agreements may be more appropriate for shorter meetings or workshops or for groups that do not deal with emotional or controversial topics.
